I fell in love with gymnastics at age 11. Being a competitive gymnast took me to college, to meets in fascinating places, to life-long friendships, and to my present dream of running my own training center.
I have met coaches who were like my own parents and ones who were abusive. I have known victory and defeat. Experience has taught me what is positive for a student and what is negative. At my center, I am committed to a positive experience for students. In each class, in each instructor, I hope you see signs of the love and faith underlying Warrenton Gymnastics Center, Inc.
This center is neither a mill for competitive athletes nor a substitute for a playground. It is a family-like environment for shaping children into their best, both physically and mentally. Each student -skilled or unskilled, agile or clumsy- is equally important in our eyes. We applaud each one's efforts and help each to find his or her unique strengths.
We take a step-by-step approach, with the goal of developing rock-solid skills as well as deep confidence. All consistent students will develop poise and strength, and some will progress to being competitive gymnasts. We hope all will experience the happiness of individual success.
After you pursue this website, feel free to contact me, or one my instructors if you need more information. We welcome inquires and suggestions and look forwards to having you as part of our center family.
Sue Henry
SUE HENRY earned a full gymnastics scholarship to the University of Nebraska in 1979, only five years after she began seriously training. She has won dozens of top gymnastics awards, including high school vaulting champion in Pennsylvania. She placed in the USA Gymnastics (USAG) Class 1 state and eastern competitions. She placed 11th all-around at the USAG national meet in 1979, qualifying to compete at the elite level.
She is known nationally for her teaching ability, having spent seven full summers teaching at Woodard Gymnastics Camp, the premier center for summer training in the United States. She has trained acro-gymnastics in partnership with Ed Isabel, the owner of Woodward.
With over 30 years of teaching experience, Sue is a Certified Skill Evaluator and has USAG National Risk Management/Safety Certification. She personally trains her instructors to ensure that they uphold her standards of skill development, safety, and client interaction. Sue also attends seminars, clinics, and workshops to stay up-to-date.
She opened her modest center in a small room in 1991 and saw enrollment triple in six months. Now Sue is thankful and feels blessed by the large number of families enrolled in programs at the center. The gym is a 10,000-square-foot climate-controlled area. It boasts state-of-the-art equipment, including a 42' x 42' spring floor, four sets of uneven bars, one high bar, parallel bars, four high beams, three low beams, one vaulting table, a full-sized trampoline, and one tumble track. Numerous accessories are available to teach progressions. Thick mats cover the floor.
Sue Henry is married to John, and they have three children, 24 year-old Samantha, 21 year-old John, and 16 year-old Marc.
